The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo, has, for the second time, floored Mike Oquaye Jnr, son of Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, to win the Dome Kwabenya primaries and become the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the 2020 general elections.
She therefore gets yet another opportunity to represent the good people of Dome Kwabenya as a 3rd term Member of Parliament, and to continue the very many developmental projects she’s undertaking in the Constituency which has endeared her to the overwhelming majority of her constituents in Dome Kwabenya.
Hon Adwo Safo has indeed proven to be the all-time greatest sensation of Dome Kwabenya, and so, her triumph over Mike Ocquaye Jnr did not come as a surprise to anybody. What rather surprised many was the audacity of the vanquished to abandon his post as Ghana’s High Commissioner to India to come and challenge the incumbent, who had beaten him previously.
Probably, Mike Ocquaye Jnr had overestimated the influence of his father (the former MP) in Dome Kwabenya, who, of course, had been very instrumental in his son’s campaign to unseat the fast rising sensation of Dome Kwabenya and Leader of the Women Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament. Not only that, Hon Adwoa Safo, who is still in her thirtys, is also rewarded for her exceptional competence as Ghana’s First Female Deputy Majority Leader and of course as a Minister for Public Procurement.
In her victory speech, Hon Adwoa Safo, expressed gratitude to almighty God for His unending grace, and also thanked the discerning delegates of Dome Kwabenya for reposing yet another confidence in her, which she promised to vindicate at all material times. She also thanked her bruised opponent, Mike Ocquaye Jnr, for the contest, and wished him farewell back to his base in India.
To her campaign team and all the people who defied all the odds including the intimidation, monetary inducements and physical assaults to still support her, she said, she could not thank them enough. To this end, she made a special mention of the Dome Kwabenya constituency chairman and his beautiful wife as well as core members of her campaign team. Hon Adwoa Safo also thanked the chiefs, queen mothers, priests, priestesses as well as religious and opinion leaders in the constituency for their unflinching support in making the Adwoa project, a reality.
She also singularly appreciated the invaluable contribution and illustrious efforts of Hon Kennedy Agyapong, Hon Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Hon Ursula Owusu, Hon Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Hon Abena Osei Asare, Hon Fransisca Oteng-Mensah, Hon Mavis Nkansah Boadu, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, Hon Naa Enyiah, Hon Ali Meigah, Hon Michael Gyato as well as the President of the Republic, and the Majority and Minority Leadership for their solidarity.
Finally, the Dome Kwabenya sensation, Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo, while calling for unity in the Constituency, also assured the rank and file of the party of her unwavering commitment to working assiduously, as usual, to, not only retain the seat for the Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition but to maximize the presidential votes in the Constituency and beyond in order to secure a second-term for the government of His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
