For his 72nd birthday celebration, international economic and development consultant and philanthropist, Dr Kweku Osafo decided to hold a dinner and awards night for some of the nation’s best-known highlife stars last Sunday, November 22 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra and what a fun event it turned out to be.
A lively and friendly atmosphere prevailed as the musicians happily interacted with each other and the other guests around.
Musicians present at the function included Teddy Osei and Sol Amarfio of Osibisa fame, Ebo Taylor, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Bob Pinodo, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Ato ‘Red Cap’ Scott-Bennin, Ben Brako, Rex Omar, Amandzeba, Osei Korankye, Bessa Simons, Pat Thomas Nana Yaa and Kwame Yeboah.
They each received a designer watch and perfume and an undisclosed amount of money and would have commemorative plaques with citations delivered to them by the end of this week.
Dr Osafo is an ardent music lover and he praised highlife musicians for helping to bolster the popularity of the music nationally and internationally.
He said they deserve recognition for proudly marketing the country through their work and that he was highly pleased to celebrate them on his 72nd birthday.
Two years ago, Dr Osafo held a similar event at the Movenpick Hotel to honour a select group of Ghanaian women who had contributed significantly in diverse ways to the development of the country.
