Arrested fake drug peddlers are not Nigerians but rather Nigeriens – NUTAG

Media reportage that emerged about the arrest 9 Nigerian fake drug peddlers are false and simply a phonetic disorder between a Nigerian and a Nigerien.

The Nigeria Union of Traders association Ghana (NUTAG) Ashanti Regional Chapter led by Chief Kizito Ike Obiora and Executive Member Mr Martin Okafor who visited the central police command in Ashanti Region to ascertain the veracity of the purported arrested Nigerians only to be informed by the Regional PRO that the arrested fake drug peddlers were indeed Nigeriens that is nationals of Niger but not Nigeria.

The visit by NUTAG to the central police command was necessitated by a request from the Nigerian High Commission who wanted to be briefed on the reportage about those fake drug peddlers who at the end were Nigerien Nationals.

Reports from several media outlets had carried stories with caption Police in Kumasi have arrested two Ghanaians and seven Nigerians for importing banned drugs and selling them to the public

NUTAG Ashanti Regional Chairman urged the media to pay attention to details especially when it comes to the demonym of the two countries. A citizen of Nigeria is simply a Nigerian and that of a citizen of Niger is Nigerien the difference is letter e.

NUTAG as a business Association is to see to it that Nigerians in Ashanti Region are engaged in genuine business but not business of illegality Chief Kizito Ike Obiora added
