YEJI IN BONO EAST REGION OF GHANA HOSTS WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSON – BLUE DAY COMMEMORATION

The maiden edition of human trafficking in person-blue day commemoration by the ministry of gender and social protection under the theme:”BUILDING A NETWORK OF HOPE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING” happened today at the yeji Presbyterian Church premises.

The all eventful and maiden commemorative day started with a courtesy call on the paramount chief of yeji traditional council, Nana Pimapim Yaw Kabrese in the early hours of the day with a powerful entourage of ministers of state/MPs,staff of the ministry of Gender and Social Protection, Staff of the Bono East Regional Coordinating council, Staff of Pru East District Assembly comprising Hon. Cynthia Morrison(Minister of Gender and Social protection/MP), Hon. Kofi Amoakohene (Bono East Regional Minister /MP), Hon. Kwabena Donkor(MP, Pru East), Hon. Kwaku Abonkrah(DCE ,Pru East) together with their supporting staff.

Messages of commitment were delivered, with message on the topic:”The Role of a member of parliament in fighting child trafficking and child exploitation “handled by MP for Pru East.

He cautioned the gathering not to mingle trafficking with upbringing.

Statement on governments support towards the protection of children in the region was rightfully discussed by Hon. Kofi Amoakohene, he reiterated various interventions by government in combating human trafficking.

He pink pointed such flagship programmes as livelihood empowerment against poverty, expansion in infrastructural projects among other short and medium term steps in protecting trafficking.

The keynote address for the commemorative world day against trafficking was delivered by Hon. Cynthia Morrison, she pleaded with all and sundry to collectively do our best in exercising our parental role /child upbringing .

She used her lifestyle as case study, where she started and where she is now,she was nearly trafficked, it took the intervention of her deceased mother to repose confidence in her.

She advised parents to keep their children as any other asset they have.

The paramount chief for yeji traditional council who chaired the event was grateful to the dignitaries for such honour given to him and his people and thanked the Gender and Social Protection minister, Regional Minister for choosing yeji to host such great and maiden thoughtful programme.
