“And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a help mate for him” – Genesis 2:18

Women constitute over 50% of Ghana’s population yet in terms of vulnerability, women are on top. It is an undisputable fact that women are mostly sidelined in terms of roles and decision making towards the building of our societies and the nation as a whole.
In contemporary days, the role women play towards the development of their respective societies cannot be overlooked. Women play major roles in the various stages of human endeavor and for that matter, women must be given adequate opportunity to participate in decision making as well as matters of societal and national interests.

H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has moved a step ahead of his predecessors as far as women involvement in national roles is concerned. More women have been given the opportunity to form part of government under President Akufo-Addo’s stewardship.
President Akufo-Addo needs to be commended for the vast opportunity given to women to be at the front line of decision making in his government.
President Akufo-Addo’s appointment of women into high offices of the State especially, some positions which have never been occupied by women before, is a clear demonstration of his absolute confidence in women.

For the first time in the political history of the State, the position of Chief of Staff has been given to a woman – Hon. Frema Opare.
Below are some prominent positions occupied by women in Nana Akufo-Addo’s government;
Hon. Gloria Akuffo – Attorney General
Her Ladyship Mrs. Sophia Akuffo – Chief Justice
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway – Foreign Affairs Minister
Hon. Mercy Yvonne Debrah-Karikari – Secretary to Cabinet
Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama – Local Government Minister
Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo – Minister for Procurement
Hon. Afoley Quaye – Minister of Fisheries
Hon. Ursula Owusu – Communication Minister
Hon. Catherine Afeku – Tourism Minister
Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson – Minister for Special Development Initiatives
Hon. Cecilia Dapaah – Aviation Minister

It is worth noting that four (4) women are Cabinet Ministers.
Out of the 216 MMDCEs, 36 nominees were Women and the the National Coordinator of the government’s flagship policy – One District One Factory is a woman – Mrs Ohene

As women we are very thankful to H. E. Nana Akufo-Addo for having confidence in us.
A leader will not succeed without the collective support of women.
The NPP party has a demonstrable record of policies that cater for the welfare of women and the vision of the Akufo-Addo’s government is not an exemption, women are well determined to help sing the success song of President Akufo-Addo’s government.

We entreat our colleagues who have been given the opportunity to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s government to demonstrate to the world that no position is beyond the capability of women.

Long live NPP
Long reign President Akufo-Addo
Long live Ghana
