Tension Mounts At Sefwi Bekwai Over The Arrests Of Four Kingmakers Of The Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council And 7 Others

Four kingmakers of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council and 7 other persons including the chief linquist and the Omanhene linquist have been arrested by the Bibiani-Anhwiaso- Bekwai Divisional Police  Command for allegedly violating the Public Order Act- 1994 (Act 491).

They are Nana Kwasi Tenakwa II, the Nifahene, Nana Kwadwo Twum II, Acting President of the Sefwi bekwai Traditional Council, Kwasi Fosu, the Paramount chief’s linquist, one Mr. Korsah, Nana Kumawuo Gyamfi, who is the Konsohene, Richard Agyei and others.

The Acting President of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, who doubles as the Kontihene has also been charged of forging of document. They would be processed for court later, according to the Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent John Osei Bonsu.


On Thursday at about 3:30pm, some armed soldiers and police officers numbering about 20 stormed the residence of the Sefwi Bekwai paramount chief to-be to arrest the suspects who were in a meeting with him (The Omanhene to be, Nana Kwasi Danso).

Barbed wire fence on the walls of the house were destroyed to pave way for some security officers to gain access to the house


In addition, doors that were locked were forcibly opened by the security personnel to arrest some of the suspects who were later handcuffed and escorted to board waiting vehicles to the Sefwi Bekwai police station and late transported to Bibiani, the Municipal capital.

Information gathered by some pressmen who were present alleged that the wife of the new paramount chief who is believed to 9 months old pregnant began to bleed from her private part when she attempted to stop some of the security personnel who were trying to forcibly break  one of the doors to a room,


Three young men who were manning the gate of the house were also arrested and were severely brutalized by the Soldiers for failing to open the gate to the house when the security personnel arrived.

Before their arrest, the kingmakers had tried to outdoor their new paramount chief in the morning but were refused entrance to the Omanhene’s palace by some heavy armed police who were guiding the palace.

Nana Kwasi Danso, the new Omanehene of Sefwi Bekwai and some elders, including the king makers were stopped by the armed policemen at the entrance of the palace.

This created a massive tension which attracted hundreds of residents to the scene. For over an hour the new paramount chief and his elders were seated in their vehicles at the entrance of the palace whiles the police were strategically positioned to avert any untoward.

Later the new paramount chief to be and his supporters peacefully drove back home where a press conference was held.


The MCE of Bibiani-Anhwiaso- Bekwai accused


During the press conference Nana Kwadwo Twum II pointed accusing fingers at the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Hon. Alfred Amoah, suspecting him to be one who ordered the security capos at the palace to prevent them from rites.

Nana Kwadwo Twum II appealed to the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), National Security, Minister of Chieftaincy, Minister of Interior and the President of the republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to find a lasting solution to this chieftaincy case before it escalates.

However, in an interview with Hon. Alfred Amoah he denied the allegations leveled against him by the Acting President of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Kwadwo Twum, saying, “I am a politician and I do not meddle myself with chieftaincy issues.”
