A tale of how drugs ruined an ex-Black Star player

Having established himself as one of the best midfielders Ghana have ever produced during his playing days, the life of ex-Black Stars midfielder Abu Imoro has become a gloomy one after living on drugs which has eventually ruined him .

Abu Imoro was one of the finest midfielders in the country having excelled with the Black Stars and Real Tamale United.

The veteran footballer is best remembered for his dribbling and passing abilities, a player African Football legend and arguably Ghana’s all-time best Abedi Pele took from.

Imoro now live on the benevolence of his ex-teammates and some former footballers to survive.

In a piece carried by TV3’s Dora Badu Acheampong, the ex-National star who was seen in a rather poor state narrated how drugs ruined his career.

According to him he used the little he was able to save as a footballer on drugs which has tumble-down his life ever since.

“I sometimes go to Abedi, he receives me well, then he will give me transportation, he told TV3.

“I am expecting them to help, even if it is little I can manage. I can force myself to come up.

“When I went into drugs it affected me and I regret very much.”

He however advised the youth especially upcoming footballers to abstain from drugs.

“I will advise the youth not to go near drugs because they are now coming up and if you want to play they move to drugs. Keep yourself out,” he added.
