“Support GES, Get Education Right” – DG tells Journalists

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Opoku Amankwa has urged the media to support Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education to get Education right as according to him ” if Ghana gets her Education system right, she will get everything else right”.

Speaking at an Orientation Workshop for Journalists drawn from the ten regions of Ghana at the Aknac hotel in Accra, Prof Opoku Amankwa urged Journalists to use the media to “raise awareness, educate, promote positive and responsive attitudes and support for government’s education policy”

The Deputy Minister for General Education , Hon Yaw Osei Adutwum in his presentation also hinted that Heads of Institutions were going to be trained to ensure that they were effective and efficient in the discharge of their duties

Responding to questions on funding, the Head of Budget at the GES Mr. Bernard Ntim disclosed that for the first time monies have been released to the District and Regional offices for the Circuit Supervisors. “This was to enhance effective monitoring and supervision in all communities and Districts ”

The orientation workshop, first of it kind had Resource Persons who took their turns to engage participants on reforms on Technical and Vocational Education (TVET), Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL), reforms at the Pre Tertiary Education level, Free SHS and the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP)
They included Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Executive Secretary, Council for Technical and Vocational Education, Mr. Adae Boahene, Technical Advisor, T-TEL, Mr. Bernard Ayensu, Senior Planning Officer, Ministry of Education and Mr. Bernard Ntim, Head of Budget ,Ghana Education Service .

The journalists expressed deep appreciation to the Organizers of the workshop of which according to them, was first of its kind in many years. ‘

“This workshop has really exposed us to many trending issues which will certainly inform our discourse in the press going forward” A participant remarked.
