Statement: Stop Sabotaging The Free SHS/Double Track System, Else… -NPP Upper East Regional Youth Organiser

We write to send a strong warning to some Headmasters/Headmistress of some Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Upper East Region to refrain from sabotaging the Free SHS/Double track system with their contrary and unprescribled acts.

We are reliably informed that, not only do some of these heads of schools reject students who are genuinely placed in their schools, but, further extort money from parents who bring their wards to their schools.

Parents are complaining bitterly about these ungoldly actions of these heads of schools. Citing some few examples, some students who are being placed with colour codes ‘green’ in the double track system are being rejected by these heads of schools with the only excuse that, ‘they have their own special arrangements and hence they should go home and come back later’. A later date, which isn’t properly communicated to these parents.

Also, some parents are being asked to pay some monies before their wards are given any merits of consideration. A situation we find it unacceptable and unfortunate, because, no monies are to be paid in this free SHS policy.

In that order, we issue this statement to send a strong wave of warning to these heads of schools who are shamelessly going contrary to the defined directives of the Ministry of Education.

We wish to state it clearly to them, that the entire youth in the region would rise up to show our dismay against their unprescribled acts, if these actions continue in the next few days.

We again, call on the Ghana Education Service to investigate the matter and sanction those heads of schools who are bent on sabotaging the new system.
