Rights and Responsibilities Initiatives Ghana’s Statement on International Women’s Day 2019

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8, to reflect on the achievements of ordinary women who have made an extraordinary impact in their countries and communities, and to celebrate the contributions of women all around the world.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2019, this year “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”, puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve the SDG 5: Gender Equality.

Achieving a gender-equal world requires social innovations that work for both women and men and leave no one behind from urban planning that focuses on: Community safety to E- learning platforms that takes classrooms to women and girls Affordable and quality childcare centres and recreational centres.

Technology shaped by women EXAMPLES: TOOLS FOR DEVELOPMENT, DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT, COMPUTERS
It begins by making sure that girls’ and women’s needs and experiences are integrated at the very inception of technology and innovations.

Key Messages
Equality is our goal (EDUCATION, HEALTH, SKILLS TRAINING, EMPLOYMENT AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS) Access is our right (RE-ENTRY POLICY)
Everyone has a part to play (MOTHERS, FATHERS, BROTHERS, SISTERS, MALE AND FEMALE).
Balance for better is a year long activity: collectively we can all play a part Collective action shared (EVERYONE VALUING UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO EDUCATION, HEALTH, AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO EMPLOYMENT) Balance for a better world.

This reiterates that the world does not belong to Gender Activists, Feminists, and Educated Women but to all who believe in girls and women, care about them and invest in them to achieve their socio-economic potential.

This will enable them have a voice and stand up for their rights. The Chinese say this beautifully by their wise saying that “ Men and women hold half the sky” Everyone’s development matters for a balanced future.

Afienhyia pa to all women and girls in Ghana.
