Release ‘Montie 3’ or lose votes – NDC supporters

Supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are mounting pressure on President John Mahama to pardon the Montie trio.

The supporters gathered at the party’s headquarters in Accra after the jailing of the Montie FM political show host Salifu Maase and his two panelists.

The Supreme Court sentenced Maase aka ‘Mugabe’, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Gunn to a four-month jail term in a contempt case. The sentence has sparked mixed views and reactions with the NDC condemning the judgment in a statement.

The party’s supporters, however, say the condemnation is not enough and have thronged the headquarters to mount pressure on their leaders to intervene.

Some supporters said, “those who sit at the court are not above the law, the President can turn a man into woman, we can’t campaign for a party and be jailed, the president should do something, we agree what they did is wrong but they have apologised and so many people have begged on their behalf”.

“If they don’t want to go to jail, they should release Mugabe, Nana Akufo-Addo has already said if he comes he is going to jail most of them so if they don’t release them, no vote for them. We will not campaign for NDC and they will lose and go to jail”, the supporters charged.
