Some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern region have questioned assertions made by its Regional Treasurer, Rashid Tanko Computer that he was robbed of a colossal amount of money belonging to the party.
They therefore called on the national leadership of the party to, as a matter of urgency, probe the matter to ascertain the facts of the case.
Sections of the supporters, who spoke to DAILY GUIDE , appealed to the police to expand the investigations beyond the two arrested suspects. They indicated that circumstances under which the monies vanished were bizarre.
About GH¢45,300 withdrawn from the accounts of the Northern Regional Secretariat of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was stolen while in the possession with the Regional Treasurer.
According to him, the money was meant for the payment of party agents that monitored the on-going 10-day biometric voter register exhibition exercise in region.
The NDC stalwart said he withdrew the money from the National Investment Bank (NIB) last Wednesday but on his way from the bank he realized something unusual with the vehicle.
According to him, he and his driver alighted from the vehicle only to discover that some bandits had devised a plan to deflate the tyres of his vehicle.
He told an Accra-based radio station, Citi fm that the bandits stole the bag containing the money.
Two suspects, who were initially arrested, were granted bail due to the lack of evidence, according to DAILY GUIDE sources.
But some of the party supporters are demanding thorough investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the cash.
Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, DSP Caesar Abanga when contacted, confirmed that the suspects had indeed been granted bail as his outfit found no clues from them to enable the police retrieve the money.
He told DAILY GUIDE that further investigations would be conducted to resolve the matter conclusively.
