Clashes between two settler communities in Wa in the Upper West region left one person severely butchered and others seriously wounded on Friday .
Reports from the area indicate the clashes erupted dispute over land with the two communities (Tahirayili and the Suhiriyili) claiming ownership.
According to Citi News reporter Mohammed Latif, at about 12:30 pm on Friday while the youth from Suhiriyili went to demarcate the land, the Tahirayili went there to attack them.
He indicated that as a result of the clashes, two motorbikes were bent and one person was severely butchered while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
He added that the police have arrested two persons Mumuni Issah and Muta Wakili Issah in connection with the clashes and they are assisting the police in investigations.
Meanwhile the Upper West Police Public Relations Officer ASP Edmund Nyamekye has stated that calm has returned to the area.
“We have sent men who are there to maintain order” he said.
According to him, the police have called for a meeting between the chiefs of the two settler communities.
He opined that because the police do not deal with land disputes, “they will be advised to go to court and seek redress.”
