NUGS Elects New Executives

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have elected New Sets of Executives to steer the affairs of the union for the next academic year.

At its 51st Annual Residential Delegates Congress held at the Dansoman Campus of the Methodist University College Ghana, Mr. Elisha Essumang Oheneba popularly known in the student circus as Bosheba polled 552 to be elected president as against his only Contender Stephen Twumasi who polled 136 votes.

The heated of the contests was the position of the Women’s Commissioner which was contested between Josceline Arthur a student of the University of Education, Winneba-Ajumako Campus and Priscilla Asuming a student of the University of Cape Coast. After a heated contest Josceline Arthur polled 412 votes to beat Priscilla who polled 271 votes. The campaign team of Priscilla who were obviously shocked with the results called for a recount of the ballot, a call which was fiercely refuted by some people leading to a heated confusion at the election center until the Chairman of the Electoral Commission Mr. Wilson Dabuo decided not to do the recount basing his reasons on the fact that the basis for which the campaign team of Miss Priscilla were calling for the recount were just meant to waste time and mar the beauty of the elections.

Daily Statesman’s Dominic K Blay polled 501 to beat his only contender Kobby Otchere Marfo who polled 211 to become the next Press and Information Secretary of the Union.

Miss Eunice Foriwaa Bimpong of Jayee University College polled 399 to beat her contender Emmanuel Abu Ampong of KNUST who polled 252 to become the International Relation’s Secretary.

Afriyie Osei Owusu, Eric O.Mensah, Denis Frimpong, Emmanuel Tabil Junior, Charway John and Mercy Asamani all won their various positions to become the Education and Democratization Secretary, Project and Programmes Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Controller, Coordinating Secretary and General Secretary respectively for NUGS.

Mr. Elisha Essumang Oheneba, the President elect of the union speaking to the media after the declaration of the results by the electoral commission chairman Mr. Wilson Dabuo thanked the students of Ghana for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He promised to work hard to bring back the lost glory of NUGS
