NDC will lose 2020 elections even if Asiedu Nketia is made EC boss – Buabeng Asamoah

Director of communications of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Buabeng Asamoah has said even if the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, is made boss of the electoral commission of Ghana, his party will still lose.

According to Lawyer Buabeng, the NDC has foreseen a defeat in the 2020 elections which is giving them sleepless nights and causing them to give false accusations.

He said, “it will be in good for the NDC to allow the EC chairperson to work in accordance with the constitution. Regardless of who is EC chair, NDC will still lose, even if Asiedu Nketia himself is made the EC chair, the NDC will still lose. NDC was given 8 years to rule and they left Ghana in a poor state, it has only taken the intervention of the NPP to bring Ghana back onto its feet, so who in Ghana would want to rig an election for the NDC”

Speaking on Kessben FM’s morning show, Maakye, Lawyer Buabeng said the EC chairperson, Jean Mensa, has been mandated by the constitution to make decisions for free and fair elections and should be given the chance to act.

“if NDC is not ruling Ghana, it doesn’t mean the country should be set on fire. The former EC chairperson made decisions of her own during her time but we (NPP) never made civil war chants, did any of us say the then EC should resign if not we will create civil war? with all her decisions that we knew it wasn’t in our favor, we kept quiet till we came to power”

He continued that, “the constitution has given election powers to the electoral commission, the EC has the power to provide for us a new register, the EC has the power to write names of voters in the country, they are all in the constitution, so if the EC at a meeting gives a road map of how things will be done and the NDC does not agree to it, it tells us that the NDC does not wish well for the country.”

The communication director, however, revealed that unlike the leading opposition party in Ghana, NDC, who doesn’t agree with decisions of the EC chairperson, the New Patriotic Party agrees to any stance made by the EC chairperson for a transparent and peaceful election.
