The founder of Meshama Foundation-an international charity organization- Mrs Mary Posch-Oduro has called on all stakeholders especially men to lead in the fight against rape and defilement in the country which in recent time have been on the media landscape. This she believes will augment the efforts of state institutions such as the police and the judiciary to arrest the menace. According to her, respectable men in society whose contemporaries unfortunately are usually the culprits/suspects should be at the forefront in the fight against these menace in our society.
Whilst I wish our men a happy World Men’s Day today 19th November, I will like to also seize the opportunity to call on all noble and morally upright men in our country to be more active and involved in the fight against rape and defilement cases in the country. I pray for a day when our men will come together to demonstrate against their colleagues who are found culpable.let us all push for stiffer punishment and if possible a special court to sit on such cases to avoid delay and denial of justice. Our fathers, husbands and brothers to should support we the women so our children would not be exposed to such risks. Our children are our assets and it is our solemn responsibility as adults whether mothers or fathers to protect them. “Yes, the laws must work. Yes, the police should act. But I believe if our men publicly show high interest in these cases it will serve as a strong signal against this menace that is finding a place in society. Rape is evil. Defilement is wickedness and all should fight against it” Mary Posch-Oduro lamented.
It will be recalled that in October last month a 3 year old girl was defiled by an 18year old man in the Central Region which attracted global attention and condemnation. Madam Mary Posch-Oduro who is a professional social worker of international repute believes men have a critical role to play to help curb the menace and therefore must lead the crusade.
Madam Mary Posch-Oduro is the founder of Meshama Foundation (a charity organization) and also an aspiring National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party. She has very rich experience in fund raising and resource mobilization. Many party faithfuls believe her inclusion in the next National Executive Council of the NPP is the surest way of mobilizing resources to energize the grassroots for victory 2020 and beyond.
