Some residents of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have given indications they may be forced to arm themselves if the Police do not improve on their efforts to ensure their safety.
According to residents, the recent spate of killings in the region has given them a cause to worry and be concerned.
Over a period of five days, five people have been killed; three of the deceased were shot while the other two were reportedly lynched.
Speaking to Citi News Coordinator of the Asante Development Union; an advocacy group, Edmond Oppong-Prepah indicated that when the public looses trust in the security services, it is likely they would take on arms to protect themselves.
“We are depicting a scenario whereby if care is not taken, people will lose confidence in the ability of the security service to protect them.
Everyone has the right to protect himself.”
Mr Oppong-Prepah called on the police to take action in order to secure the situation.
