Kenya Stripped Off 2018 CHAN Hosting Right, Ghana To Host?

The confederation of African Football – CAF have confirmed taken away the hosting right of the CHAN tournament from Kenya.

The executive committee of CAF cited unpreparedness as part of the main reason why Kenya had to be taken off the right of hosting the tournament.

According to the executive of committee of CAF,from the inspections in Kenya, they were not convinced of the east African nation’s readiness to host the tournament.

CAF says it has with immediate effect from Sunday 24th September 2017 opened application for emergency bidding to the tournament which will take off in January 2018 to February 2018.

Morocco and Ethiopia are in pole position to be handed the right of hosting the tournament as they’ve shown open interest. Meanwhile Ghana who failed to qualify for the tournament are also likely to be considered following a sublime hosting of the WAFU 2017 tournament.

CAF announced the decision on Saturday after the executive committee’s meeting in Accra, Ghana. The president of CAF, Dr Ahmad Ahmad briefed the media on the decision and this is what he had to say.

“With respect to the African Nations Championship which will be coming off very soon, we have decided in the supreme interest of football, because there are doubts in various aspects in terms of sporting infrastructure, the atmosphere in Kenya currently which is the prospective host, we cannot take the risk of allowing the country to host that event.

“We have withdrawn Kenya’s rights to host that particular event. “I’m officially declaring that from tomorrow [Sunday
September 24], we will open the bids for countries that wish to organize the Chan 2018.

“In a week, they will manifest their desire to organize with guarantees or assurances from their respective governments.
