Karela United gain Premier League promotion

Karela United are the first side to secure promotion to next season’s Ghana Premier League.

Based in Nzema Aiyinase in the Elembelle district of the Western Region, Karela compete in Zone Two of the GN Bank Division One League.

On Sunday, they went 20 points clear off second-placed New Edubiase United after thrashing King Faisal 4-1 in a matchday 25 fixture.

With five matches left (15 points) to end the league season and on 64 points, the coach Johnson Smith side simply secured their place in the elite division for the 2017/18 season.

Karela United have been consistent this campaign dominating their Zone for the larger part of the campaign.

This Premier League promotion is a first in the history of the club which was formerly known Metro SC and based in Sekondi-Takoradi. After a takeover in October 2013, the club was renamed Karela United and later moved their home grounds to Nzemaland prior to the start of the 2015/16 GN Division One League Season.
