Why Hon. Kwamena Bartels needs to be celebrated whilst alive – NPP aspirant

Gone were those days when people who did yeoman’s work were celebrated whilst they rested in their graves. This certainly needs to be redefined. It is in this light that, Hon. Antwi BARIMA BA, the incoming Chairman for Ablekuma North Constituency says, he is incongruous with the old system of celebrating our Heroes. One notable illustrious Son of our land and to be specifically from Ablekuma North Constituency is Hon. Kwamena Bartels. He is an indispensable heroe who deserves to be honoured whilst he is alive because of his tremendous contributions towards the development of our dear country Ghana in general and Ablekuma North Constituency in particular. He is a loyal and a staunch member of the NPP who has diligently served the party in all the thick and thin moments. He is dedicated, hardworking, selfless, knowledgeable and full of wisdom. He among others, held five(5) Ministerial positions within the eight(8) years of President Kuffour’s reign. He was the Minister for Interior in August 2007- May 2008, the Acting Minister for Information and National Orientation from May 2006-August 2007, Acting Minister for Tourism in May 2002-April 2003, Minister for Private Sector Development and Presidential Special Initiatives, November 2002-April 2005, and the Minister for Works and Housing in February 2001-his first ministerial appointment. During the eighth year period under President Kuffour, Hon. Kwamena Bartels attended and addressed several International Conferences and events which included; 1. International Parliament in London in February 2008 where he spoke on “Tackling Drugs in Ghana”. 2.International Organization for Migration on ” Liberian Refugees in Ghana ” Geneva in Switzerland (Feb. 2008). 3.Conference on Fair Trade between ACP and EU countries in Switzerland(Sept 2007) . He also attended World Economic Forum in South Africa in 2003. He is a third-time former Member of Parliament in Ablekuma North Constituency- a seat took over from NDC in 1996 and made it a strong hold for NPP till date. He won all poling stations in Ablekuma North Constituency for NPP in the year 2000& 2004. Currently, Hon. Bartels is the Board Chairman for Ghana Oil(GOIL). It is clearly undoubting and understandable why we cannot watch such a decorated politician with these enormous contributions not celebrated whilst alive. It is high time we identify all individuals who have done and still doing excellent jobs like Hon. Kwamena Bartels and celebrate them while they exist. This will motivate others to also do their best towards the development of our great Nation Ghana because, a country that does not honour it’s heroes is not worth dying for.
