HON. BARBARA OTENG GYASI MEETS CREATIVE ARTS COUNCIL

As part of the avowed quest of Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture, on her assumption office, to turn the fortunes of the Ghana’s Creative Arts Sector around for the socio cultural and economic improvement of those engaged in the creative industry, Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi held her maiden engagement with the leadership of a cross section of the of the Creative Arts Council.

This encounter was to also help change the narrative in the Creative Arts industry, which is a multi-billion dollar economy and has the potential to aid the President Nana Akufo Addo’s Ghana beyond aid agenda, for the economic transformation of the country.

The event took place at the ministry’s conference Hall on the 28th May, 2019, in Accra, with the sole aim of assuring the players and captains in the creative Arts Industry of the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture’s commitment to the overall development and growth of the creative Arts industry.

The interaction follows a series of previous stakeholder consultations with the Creative Arts Council and other players in the tourism sector to help make constructive inputs that would lead to the successful passage of the Creative Arts Bill, which is currently before Ghana’s Parliament.

Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi in her remarks used the rare occasion to implore the Creative Arts Council, as a matter of urgency, to put forward meaningful contributions that would help address all the bottlenecks in the proposed Creative Arts Bill before Parliament.

She added that the President had a strong commitment to the improvement of Ghana’s tourism sector and invariably the Creative Arts industry and thus urged all in the tourism sector to live up to expectation in turning the socio economic fortunes of the sector.

Creative Arts Industry includes cultural sites, visual arts, traditional cultural expressions, performing arts, music, publishing and literary arts, audio visual, new media, design and creative services, research and record keeping.

Meanwhile, the Creative Arts domains or the professional bodies, are catalogued amongst others as follows:

The Music Industry, Fashion, Beauty and Modelling Industry, Film/Screen Industry, Visual Arts Industry (Fine Art), Photography Industry, others are Theatre Arts Industry (Drama), Theatre Arts Industry (Dance), Literary Arts and Book Industry, Audio Visual Industry, New Media and Creative Services Industry.

The rest are Heritage and Cultural Sites, Traditional Cultural Expressions, Festivals and Celebrations, Intellectual Property Rights and Collecting Societies Industry Wide Networks and Events Industry.
