The Western North Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which was among the six (6) newly created regions countrywide early this year, with the intention to bring governance close to the door steps of the citinery has elected Mr. Benjamin William Assuah as its new regional chairman during their recent Regional Elections held at Sefwi Wiawso, the Regional capital last Saturday to handle the affairs of the party for the next four year period.
Mr. Assuah has been patron for the Western Region for the past four years before the creation of the new region, got 63 votes cast to secure victory out of the 156 total votes cast, his closed contender Mr. Benjamin Armah had 55 and Lawyer Kwasi Blay also manage a paltry 38 votes.
The election was organized and monitored by the Electoral Commission Directorate in the Western Region.
Other members elected to occupy various positions were Samuel Kofi Abiaw, as a Secretary, Gifty Adu Amamkwa as a treasure.
The rest are, Samuel Adu Adjei, the immediate past Regional Communications Director as a Regional Organiser, Alhassan Rahman as a NASARA Coordinator.
While the Youth Organiser position still remains vacant. This is because the two famous contestants had the same figures at end of the elections.
Madam Golly Bosiako who until the creation of the new region was the Regional women’s organiser still occupy the same position in the new region without any election.
In all 156 delegates participated in the voting. These delegates drawn from all the nine (9) Constituencies namely Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Juaboso Constituency, Bodi Constituency, Akotombra Constituency, Aowin Constituency, Suaman Constituency, Bia East and West Constituency respectively that formed the Western North Region,
The election was observed by Regional and National Executives of party and a host of other dignitaries.
After the confirmation, Mr. Assuah in his acceptance speech pledged to work in close collaboration with both past and present executives to make sure there is total peace and unity among the party members during his tenure of office.
He thanked the party faithful delegates for the trust and conference resposed in him and pledge to win more seats in the come 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections in the Region in order to retain NPP government in power.
