Eastern Region : STEPSS Students cry out for Infrastructure

St Stephen’s Presbyterian senior high Technical School (STEPSS) was founded in the year 1978 through the instrumentality of Nana Asafo Agyei Stephen , a renowned son of Aduana Clan of Asiakwa . His commitment in ensuring the establishment of STEPSS , He sacrificed his monthly salary as stipends for teachers and also allocated 80 acres of land for the School .

The School recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, forty years down the line the school has chalked some success over the past years, but not withstanding the huge Infrastructural deficit such as Students Dormitories,Staff bungalows School Bus and Ultra-modern state of art classrooms which makes teaching and learning enjoyable .

An exclusive interview was conducted by Tweneboah Koduah a journalist In the Eastern region whose aim was to bring all hidden schools into a lime light .

Apenteng Gideon , the school prefect of STEPSS told us more about the school and its challenges.

According to Gideon, the school lacks basic infrastructure for smooth teaching and learning.
Inadequate dormitories has created congestion at both the males and females dormitory . He added that the situation has forced the school authorities to use one of the inadequate classrooms as a makeshift dormitory for the females .

The least said about the classrooms the better.

The situation is bad that , authorities has been forced to create six Classes using wooden partition in the uncomplicated Dining hall .

Gideon Apenteng again, stressed on some areas like, the absence of science laboratory makes teaching and learning of science very difficult. According to him students do not have the opportunity to put into practice whatever they learn in books ,
Furthermore, the lack of teachers bungalows is another major problem facing the school.
The school does not have a single teachers bungalow.
None of the teaching staff is staying on the Campus which makes supervision and monitoring of students very difficult.

This school is not having a sick bay He said, it becomes difficult when a student is sick especially in the night , sometimes we are laughed at when we attend programs and functions because we don’t have any school Bus to convey students.
It is either we get there late or we don’t go at all .
We have been moving from school to school to beg for Vehicle before we attend sporting activities.

The problems facing the institution are enormous and needs proper attention from the siting Government led by His Excellency the president of the republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.

Mr.Samuel Asante Anarfi ,The Headmaster of the school also added his voice,According to him the management of the school have written series of letters to various departments, individuals, donors, Old students and individual organization to rethink of the school.

According to the Headmaster, the Hon . Member of Parliament Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea also double as the Minister for Works and housing has pledged in his capacity to do all he can to redevelop the school to attain its maximum recognition.
He added ( the Headmaster) that, he has not seen much presence of the past students (old students) According to him their impact has not reflected in the school so therefore he is encouraging them to play their vital role in the affairs of the school as it is being done in other schools through out the country.
