Eastern Region: Heavy downpour destroy girls dormitory, students escape death at Akyem Asiakwa

Yesterday heavy rainfall destroyed some structures at St Stephen’s Presbyterian senior high Technical School STEPSS at Akyem Asiakwa in the East Akim Municipality of the Eastern region.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Asante Samuel Anarfi confirmed to Eastern regional correspondent TWENEBOAH KODUAH of KESSBEN FM.

According to him the rain started around 5:00 pm and in the process there was heavy winds which brought down some of the roofing sheet at the school dining hall, and some part of the Administration block after some few minutes , he ( the Headmaster) heard some screaming from the female dormitory block, confirming to the fact that, the whole roof has come down and part of the block has collapsed.

Eventually , he walked into the heavy winds to see if there has been any casualties, but God being so Good all the females who where in the block run for their lives with the exception of two ladies who were left in the room but fortunately they had small bruises which they have been taken to the Asiakwa Health care unit for treatment.


According to the Headmaster,He quickly called the National Disaster management Organization( NADMO) to inform them about the issue and they quickly came to their rescue.

The Headmaster Mr. Asante Samuel Anarfi is once again using the opportunity to appeal to the general public, individuals and group of people to come to the aid of the school.
