President of Berekum based football club, Berekum Chelsea, Obed Nana Kwame Nketiah, says Policy Analyst for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Dr. Amo Sarpong was beaten at the Berekum Golden City Park because of his approach to the situation.
Few minutes to the kickoff of the Normalization committee Special competition game 8 between Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park, Dr. Amo Sarpong was reported to have allegedly pulled a gun at the home fans which lead to the home fans physically assaulting him.
Speaking in an interview on Midfield Action aired on Kessben FM/Kessben TV, Nana Kwame Nketiah affirmed that the reports were true.
“I met George Amoako with a few Kotoko staff when I got to the stadium, we spoke for a while and he told me there has been chaos already but they are on their way to meet the two halves for peace to prevail. I met with the Berekum fans involved and spoke to them, so we decided to meet with Dr. Amo Sarpong to settle the issue, and that was when we saw him heading to his car to pull a gun and started giving warning shots.”
“I went to the park late before the first incident happened, I can not testify to what really happened at first but if he was assaulted it was because of what he did. Why should you pull a gun at the stadium? Everybody has a gun but it has a purpose.”
When asked if reports that football centers in Berekum are noted for violence and notorious acts, Nana Kwame Nketiah declined, sighting all football centers in Ghana to have the same issues.
“The whole Ghana, the team at his home grounds is a master. There were a couple in happenings in Kumasi during the Kotoko versus Berekum Chelsea game, but no one would want to speak about it, there is violence everywhere, show me a club in Ghana that can report of no violence at its home grounds.” He quizzed.
