Ghana’s Representative for the Deputy Secretary General of the Pan African Youth union’s elections held in Sudan Mr Ahmed Bening has brought honour to the country after he beat competition to emerge the winner and by so doing becomes the deputy head of the secretariat.
Mr Ahmed Bening prior to his departure to Sudan paid a coutesy call on the number one gentleman of the land H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Youth and sports Minister Hon Isaac Asiamah to get their blessings as the country’s representative.
The election was held at the 5th Ordinary Congress of the Pan African Youth Union (PYU) in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
Following his victory, Ahmed Bening thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, and the CEO of the National Youth Authority, Emmanuel Asigri for their support.
He will serve in the position for a period of three years from 2018 to 2020.
He also thanked Ghanaians and the youth, in particular for the unwavering support and confidence they reposed in him throughout his campaign for the position.
Ahmed Bening promised to help the Union implement the AU 2017 theme road-map, create opportunities for the Youth, particularly in the West African sub-region, and raise high the flag of Ghana by championing the Youth Agenda in Ghana.
“I will use this opportunity to raise high the flag of Ghana in Africa and the World through cooperation, collaboration and employment-driven opportunities for the youth in Ghana and beyond,” he said.
The PYU is a continental platform of youth organizations with the mission to work for the realization and reinforcement of the ideals and values of the African Union.
The theme for this year’s Congress, which is held every three years, was “Youth facing the Socioeconomic Challenges of Africa”.
The Congress was to enable the PYU recall and clarify its historical importance in the social and political sphere of the continent, as well as discuss issues affecting the union and identify ways to address them.
The Ghanaian delegation was headed by the Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Bright Acheampong, a Deputy Communications Director to the President, Miss Fatimatu Abubakar, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Dennis Aboagye and Mr. Bening
