Bank Of Ghana Denies Plans To Issue New Currency Denominations

The Bank of Ghana has denied speculations on social media of their plans to issue new currency denominations into the system.

The Head of Public Affairs unit of the Bank of Ghana, Ms. Esi Hammond, in an interview assured the public to disregard such information circulating on social media.

According to her, the BoG has no intentions of introducing new currency denominations, and that if anything of that sort comes up, or if even the BoG has any such plans at all, it will be communicated properly to the public.

“There are no such plans by the Bank to print new currency denominations …..the public should disregard this information.”

The rumored denominations are in GH¢30, GH¢100 and GH¢200 notes. The source of information of the new notes is not known.

However, the Gh¢100 and the GH¢200 note among the rumored denominations which is raising eyebrows has the image of the big 6, while the GH¢30 has the image of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president on it.
