Audio:Resourcing peasant farmers will not increase productivity and neither will it aid in job creation – Odike Urges government

Kumasi based Businessman Cum politician  Mr  Kwasi Addai Odike has praised the recently launched planting for food and jobs by the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at Goaso in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The flagbearer of the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the 2012 elections said any government that does not take agriculture seriously was bound to fail and if care is not taken in policy implementation, the program will be dead on arrival.
Mr Odike opined that just resourcing peasant farmers was not going to increase productivity and create jobs on the  larger scale as per the program’s slogan planting for food and jobs.
As an entrepreneur  and a politician he was of the view that the best way to go is to import technology and merchanise agriculture by creating a lot of demonstration farms across the country so that the peasant farmer can tap that knowledge and help in his or her farming activities.
Empowering the private sector will make the program a success looking at the how  Ghanaian peasant farmer still use hoe and cutlass in today’s 21st century.
