'Name Shama SHS after paramount chief'
Monday, 18 July 2011 04:33

The Secretary to the Paramount Chief of Shama Traditional Area, Mr. Joshua Anaman, has appealed to the government

to consider naming the Shama Senior High School after the Paramount Chief of Shama Traditional Area, Nana Kweku Binnah III.

He said the paramount chief had contributed to the development of the school and the Shama Traditional area and that it would be fair for the government to honour him.

Mr. Anaman made the appeal to the District Chief Executive for Shama, Mr. Enoch Kojo Appiah, in Shama on Friday during the sod cutting ceremony for construction of a community football field and other projects for the Shama Senior High School.

He said the paramount chief had released a large tract of land to the school as well as other social interventions in the traditional area which had contributed to the success story of the school and the Shama Traditional area.

Mr. Anaman said: ”When you go to other traditional areas across the country and even in the Western Region, there are schools and other social facilities which have been named after chiefs.”

He said apart from the Shama SHS, there are other social facilities in the Shama Traditional Area, which the government could consider naming after the paramount chief so that posterity would know about his contribution.
