Government commended for improving SHS infrastructure
Saturday, 09 July 2011 07:11

The Ghana Education Service Council has commended the Government for improving infrastructure requirements for Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide.

Mr Francis Kojo Arthur; government representative on the Council who was speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Council, Agyewodin Prof. Adu Gyamfi Ampim, said the Government had done well to meet the challenges posed by extending the duration of SHS from three years to four years.

Mr Arthur, who is also the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West said a visit by the Council to the Volta, Brong-Ahafo and Ashanti regions recently showed that educational infrastructure had improved considerably since President John Evans Atta Mills took over the administration of the country.

He said the Council also commended the authorities of some SHS for their ingenuity in providing some facilities for their schools.

Mr Arthur on his support for his constituents said he had awarded 140 students in SHS, polytechnics and nurses training colleges with scholarships to pursue their studies and had paid over GH¢30,000 to cover fees for the students.

He said he was constructing a bridge to span river Ochie at Ollefleku to enable children to have easy passage to school at Abeadze.

The Education Service Council member said he had also provided six communities with water poly-tanks.

The beneficiary communities were Gomoa Ajumako, Ajumakoansa, Brebiano, Gomoa Mankessim, Akropong and Osede CHPS compound.

He said he had done all these to support the government’s better Ghana agenda.

The MP said he was also supporting five communities to construct their markets to generate income for the Assembly.
