The Ashanti Regional Police has arrested nine more suspects in connection with an attack on the Region Coordinator Director by pro-New Patriotic Party vigilante group Delta Force.
This brings to 14 the number of suspects arrested so far.
The heavily built men, led by one Kwadwo Bamba, 37, on Friday, March 24, stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and violently removed from office Mr George Agyei, the newly appointed regional security coordinator, on grounds that they would not be able to work with him as he was not a native of the region. The group said Mr Agyei did not partake in the campaign for the 2016 poll that brought the NPP to power.
Police have since arrested and released on bail Mr Bamba and four others who led the onslaught in the incident, which has been condemned by some party bigwigs including Sammi Awuku, National Youth Organiser, with calls by others for the leadership of the party to rein in its vigilante groups.
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Nketia Yeboah, has revealed that the police command is preparing a docket for advice from the Attorney General.
