As we gear towards 2018 music awards hoping to elect who deserves artist of the year, discovery of the year et al. We take a look at some of the artist that did immensely well but was not given the needed attention due them.
Denning Edem Hotor (Edem) started 2018 well as one of the few artists that released great songs with matching lyrics but was later sponged when the noise became too loud. Edem released ‘Fie Fuor’, a song that spoke about family yokes and the bring him down attitude of some families that seek to prevent the progress of family members. The video to the song was later released but still did not get the attention and promotion accorded it.
Elorm Adabla (E L) is arguably one the great talent Ghana can boast of but lacks the necessary hype and promotions as other artist get. He released ‘Over Dose’ within the third quarter of 2018, the song came with a different lyric of its own but was later over looked by the media.
If reality is something to put artist on the map, Akan will be one fella to be given easy pass. Akan started 2018 with back to back hits. Some of his hit songs were accompanied by mouth watering videos but did not receive the hype, attention and promotions due them.
Thomas Adjei Wireko (King Paluta), Coming into the scene with a different rap style, King Paluta has talent that separates him from most other rappers. The Kumasi based rapper has release jaw dropping hit songs but is yet to be given the attention due it. King Paluta has been signed to NKz Music label and has collaborations with others artist.
Nana Yaa Thomas daughter of legendary singer Pat Thomas, a uniquely gifted singer, songwriter with no professional training at all. Nana Yaa possesses a gift that is rarely seen in the music industry nowadays. Previously known to be a backing vocalist to the music maestro, Kojo Antwi. Nana Yaa on any given day gives you goose bumps on the first listen of her songs. She write songs that brings a bright, sunny-side-up vibe to your ears. Her inspiring songs and catchy beats can lift anyone’s mood and bring more happiness to their day.
Noella Wiyaala (Wiyaala) has gotten a niche for herself in the European market but have less attention in her own country, she became the only artist to be invited to perform at the queen’s castle in England within 2018 but still lacked the necessary hype and air play of her songs in Ghana.
Another underrated artist, Feli Nuna has a distinctive quality of a voice coupled with great sing along songs within the last two years but has not gotten the needed attention, her kind of songs has a more retro lyrics which could be addictive to all generations.
Arguably one of the best young Afro High lifers the country can produce with a number of great songs, great story-line with great lyrics to match, songs like Serwaa Akoto and a list of others. He is surely one fella that one could say needs no introduction if good music was celebrated but still has little or no serious attention due him.
Deon Boakye is now signed to the high-grade family record label the same label that produced great artist like Stonebwoy and Kofi Kinaata, we hope the coming years turns out well for Deon.
Ethel Esi Eshun (Eshun) Represented Ghana at the UNICEF meeting in Switzerland, got recommendations from European music lovers for her lyrical dexterity and her Africanism. Eshun released great songs like Someone loves me which featured Flowking Stone, Fakye, Akyea and a list of other songs but was still eluded with the needed attention and hype.
Coming in with his high life background as the son of late highlife legend, Akwaboah Snr, he sings with his own majestic charm. Song writer and pianist, Gladstorm Akwaboah Jr came into active music with his hit song ‘I do love you’ and was later instrumental in Sarkodie’s ‘Mary’ album but we believe Akwaboah is still underrated because he lacks the needed hype and attention. His maiden album ‘Matters Of the Heart’ is an epitome of talent, he sings and write songs written in Twi, Ga and English. He is a special musician that has both the artistry, charisma, and talent all on his pink lips.
